Road roughness testing is the assessment of the unevenness of a road's surface. This testing measures the variations in the road's profile, detecting irregularities that could affect vehicle comfort, safety, and overall road quality.
There being two types of roughness measured and captured in the IRI (International Roughness Index) model.
• Localised Bumps—such as construction joints, step changes etc.
• Longitudinal wavelengths in the 2 to 50m range.
Laser profilers capture data at 25mm intervals longitudinally with a vertical resolution of 0.25mm.
This allows for a highly accurate surface model to be produced of the road surface.
Road surface profiles can then be utilised to look for and accurately identify high and low spots at specific intervals to enhance and cross check survey.
Eliminate the need for road closures and costly traffic management costs.
The Road Testing Australia Laser profilers are able to collect data at traffic speeds while stopping at traffic lights without any data loss.
With a worlds 1st zero speed laser profiler no more traffic Control Costs with Police testing at night.
A recent road test with four signalised intersections was completed without the 16 traffic controllers and four Police specials normally need to test through all four intersections without data loss. This saved our client $12,000 of additional test costs.
